Exotic Slabs: Natural Beauty and Versatility

Exotic Tropical Hardwood Slabs are unique one-of-a-kind pieces of sawn lumber where the natural live edges have been left intact on each lateral side of the pieces exposing the grain patterns and defects of the whole wide and length of the tree. Without edging, the full width of the log is yielded to expose the natural colors and grain patterns of each piece in several different species.

DOSEL-Art by Nature- treats each slab that it manufactures as what they truly are, examples of mother nature’s works of art. DOSEL Exotic Tropical Hardwood Slabs are art by nature at its finest. DOSEL presents its slabs in 5 different species, unlike many competitors that only handle pieces this size in one or two species. Most competitor brands only carry slabs in lengths of up to 12’ while DOSEL typically has lengths of up to 18 feet. DOSEL is best for high-end commercial interior design.

Mature trees are carefully selected for harvest at sustainable forest management sites. Using environmentally friendly direction tree-felling techniques that help preserve the surrounding forest and ecosystem, the selected mature trees are transported to licensed sawmills for milling. The method of selective harvesting used by DOSEL contractors on average only extracts 1.5 Trees per hectare or less than a tree per acre and is widely considered by forest engineers and conservationists today a 100% sustainable and certifiable activity.

Once sawn, each piece is carefully stacked for air-drying where it is left 4-6 months and, in some cases, longer before going into kilns for a final heat treatment that closes the cells after each piece has dried naturally to levels where it can be used in temperature-controlled environments as in places with full or partial exposure to sunlight, without contracting or expanding.

DOSELS Exotic Tropical Hardwood Slabs can be finished with many types of sealers, stains, oils and resins, however, the brand developers and manufacturers recommend epoxy resin that although more expensive eternalizes the wood sealing it permanently from moisture or water damage while permeating the surface to protect it against any type of wear and tear damage or stains.
